T1DMV's success depends on volunteers who bring diverse skills, lived experiences, and genuine passion for supporting the diabetes community. Whether you have a few hours a month or can commit to regular involvement, there's a meaningful way for you to contribute.

Volunteer Opportunities

Peer Support Facilitator

4-6 hours/month

Lead or co-facilitate Diabetes Circles and support group meetings, providing a safe space for community members to share experiences and support each other.

Requirements:

  • Living with diabetes or family member of someone with diabetes
  • Compassionate listener with empathy
  • Comfortable facilitating group discussions
  • Reliable and committed to regular meetings
  • Training provided

Education Ambassador

6-8 hours/month

Deliver diabetes education presentations at schools, community centers, and public events to raise awareness and combat misconceptions.

Requirements:

  • Knowledge of diabetes (personal or professional)
  • Strong public speaking skills
  • Comfortable presenting to diverse audiences
  • Available for daytime and evening events
  • Training and materials provided

Youth Camp Counselor

3-5 days/year

Support annual youth camps by mentoring teens and young adults, assisting with activities, and providing peer guidance in a fun, safe environment.

Requirements:

  • Experience with youth or camp settings
  • Living with diabetes (preferred)
  • Patient, energetic, and responsible
  • First aid training (preferred)
  • Background check required

Event Coordinator

10-15 hours/month

Help organize and manage community events, World Diabetes Day celebrations, fundraising activities, and awareness campaigns.

Requirements:

  • Event planning or coordination experience
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work with diverse teams
  • Available for weekend events
  • Project management skills helpful

Social Media & Communications

5-7 hours/week

Manage social media accounts, create content, design graphics, and help share our message across digital platforms.

Requirements:

  • Social media management experience
  • Content creation and copywriting skills
  • Basic graphic design (Canva, Adobe)
  • Understanding of diabetes community
  • Consistent availability for posting schedules

Island Representative

3-5 hours/month

Serve as T1DMV's local contact on your island, organizing support meetings, distributing materials, and connecting residents with resources.

Requirements:

  • Resident of island outside Malé
  • Connected to local community
  • Willing to host small group meetings
  • Good communication skills
  • Passionate about diabetes advocacy

Content Creator

4-8 hours/month

Create videos, photos, blog posts, and other content documenting our programs and sharing community stories.

Requirements:

  • Photography or videography skills
  • Video editing experience
  • Creative storytelling ability
  • Own equipment (camera, editing software)
  • Respect for privacy and consent

Healthcare Professional

Flexible

Provide medical expertise at events, review educational materials, deliver professional training, and ensure program safety.

Requirements:

  • Licensed healthcare professional (doctor, nurse, educator)
  • Diabetes care experience
  • Available for events and consultations
  • Professional liability insurance
  • Commitment to evidence-based care
